Yes, I know by now you are all aware that Oscar De La Renta passed away yesterday. It is always so sad when the world loses a legend. However, this passing away holds a special place in my heart. As a Designer Manager one of the luxuries I had was traveling to New York to assist in the buys (purchasing the assortment that our store would receive in future seasons). One of the vendors that I visited every year was Oscar De La Renta. Not only did I get to surround myself in endless luxury, color, incredible fabrics, and unbelievable embellishments but I got to speak with Oscar De La Renta himself. Almost every time I visited the showroom he was present. He was a gentle man, always had a smile, and always willing to say hi and ask you if you liked his collection. No one dare said no, but we didn’t even have to fake that answer because without a doubt he out did himself every season. His clothes would come to life in the showroom; the whole room was like a large embellished rainbow. And as you walked the room looking through his garments each one made a statement and each one was more beautiful than the next. I will be forever grateful that I got to meet this incredible designer and be graced with his never-ending imagination and creativity. We have truly lost a one of a kind artist. Rest in Peace Oscar De La Renta your memory will live on forever.
